Is Interdisciplinary Collaboration the Solution?

Three Years Later, are We Still Unprepared for the Next Pandemic?

By IGI Global on Apr 10, 2023
Medical Scrubs wearing person The virus responsible for causing COVID-19 is still spreading, as well as other infectious diseases creating a growing concern about global unpreparedness. The World Health Organization recognizes some major probable threats, including Lassa fever, Ebola, and Marburg virus disease, which can spread from person to person through contact with someone who is infected. Scientists must engage in discussions about the potential for future pandemics and develop possible solutions in advance. For expert perspectives on this matter, the latest book, Health Informatics and Patient Safety in Times of Crisis(ISBN: 9781668454992)published by IGI Global, provides views on how healthcare informatics has managed the current pandemic and how improved healthcare informatics could help in a future crisis. This book is edited by Dr. Vajjhala, who has over 20 years of experience teaching programming in Europe and Africa, and Dr. Eappen, who brings a decade of experience in hospital and healthcare management.
Steven Berkshire "The world has just come through a major crisis with the COVID pandemic, nothing like it in close to one hundred years. Healthcare, like other industries and governments, was not prepared for the impact this virus caused. To make matters worse, most of the healthcare system internationally depends on computers, the internet, and technology. Healthcare institutions had to reorganize services and staff to meet the challenges brought about by the pandemic, including looking for innovative ways to deliver care to the millions suffering from the virus and others needing routine and advanced care."
