Mood Lighting for Saving Money and the Environment

As energy conservation has come to the forefront of many homeowners preferences when purchasing products for their homes, companies have made quite the effort to keep up with the advancing technologies. Niko UK, a European company that specializes in "home automation and lighting solutions," ( www.nikouk.com/About%20Niko.html) has recently introduced their latest intelligent control system, the Niko Daylight Control System. This equipment is programmed to sense the amount of sunlight that is pouring into your home, and automatically calibrates the amount of lighting your lamps and overhead lights produce. Motion detectors can also be set to add more light where activity is sensed. The system's creators claim that home and business owners that utilize the system can accrue up to 70% of energy savings. Niko explains the benefits of their system and other products, but does not elaborate on the technologies behind them. More information on control systems and other artificial-intelligence-powered tools are available in one of IGI Global's latest releases, Knowledge-Based Intelligent System Advancements: Systemic and Cybernetic Approaches, edited by Jerzy Jozefczyk and Donat Orski, both professors at the Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland.

This book presents selected new AI–based ideas and methods for analysis and decision making in intelligent information systems derived using systemic and cybernetic approaches. It is targeted toward researchers, practitioners and students interested intelligent information retrieval and processing, machine learning and adaptation, knowledge discovery, applications of fuzzy based methods and neural networks.
