Interview with Dr. Ndubuisi Ekekwe

By IGI Global on Nov 7, 2011
Dr. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, one of IGI Global's most esteemed editors, recently took some time to talk to IGI Global about his blog. Dr. Ekekwe is a researcher and editor who has been blogging for years as a way to get his ideas out into the world as well as promote and bring attention to his research and writing.

IGI Global: What initially interested you about blogging, and why did you start your own blog, Nkpuhe?

Dr. Ekekwe: I used blogging to dissipate new ideas as they came. I noticed that after blogging about a topic, I felt liberated. I used to write for many newspapers, but a time came when the rate of publication was slower than the rate that ideas were coming to my brain. Quickly, I started my blog. Nkpuhe (which means "revelation" in the Nigerian Igbo language) has since moved to Tekedia.com.

IGI Global: You are a rather prolific blogger, as you often post many times throughout a day. What encourages you to blog continuously and regularly at the pace you do? How do you find/decide on the material you will blog about?

Dr. Ekekwe: I am a strategic blogger. I use blogging to build my brand. I focus on business, entrepreneurship and technology. Blogging has never been a problem because during my undergraduate days, in Nigeria, I founded a news magazine and ran it as an editor and publisher. It was fun writing and getting my fellow students to buy the magazine. I needed to offer something fresh in the pages.

IGI Global: As a researcher and editor, how do you find that blogging intersects with or interacts with your life as a researcher? How do you see your life as a blogger playing a role in your forthcoming IGI Global publication, Disruptive Technologies, Innovation and Global Redesign: Emerging Implications?

Dr. Ekekwe: I am seeding the new book very well. There is a relationship between blogging and your works. I want people to read my books. Blogging provides that avenue to build followership with fans. Recently, I have been writing about disruptive technologies and innovation. For me to spend time to edit the books, I must also work hard to get people to read them.

IGI Global: Where do you see your personal future as a blogger going and/or where do you see the future of blogging and the blogosphere overall heading?

Dr. Ekekwe: I may not necessarily want people to see me as a blogger. I will prefer they see me as someone that has a lot of ideas and who uses blogging to share them. Whether I am writing in Harvard Business Review or IGI Global, I do not want to convey the image that I am blogger. I want people to think first that he is an expert in his area and he is using the blogging to share ideas. I was in South Africa a few days ago and was very happy when a professor told me that he used one of my blog posts for a class lesson. On the future of blogging? Anyone can open a blog, the key metric is how many people are reading them. At the end, the intense discussion in the blog ecosystem will decide winners and losers.

Dr. Ekekwe's forthcoming IGI Global publication, Disruptive Technologies, Innovation and Global Redesign: Emerging Implications, was also co-edited by Dr. Nazrul Islam, Aberystwyth University, UK.
