Abstract

This proposal encompasses in a practical and viable way a collection of activities to contribute to the early development of children's perceptive capacities through sensory stimulation and psychomotor education. These activities have been adjusted to the reality of the school and the evolution and personal features of children from 0 to 2 years old. Moreover, recommendations and strategies to grant an inclusive early education derived from the experience of putting them into practice have been included. The goal, in every case, will be the creation of fun learning situations where the infants feel free to do, touch, feel, express, make mistakes, and try things over and over again.

Setting The Stage

The scope of action is set in children from 0 to 2 years old, who, in their early childhood, live an essential stage to set the basis for their physical, sensory, intellectual and affective-social development. Given that all these areas feed on each other (Gil-Madrona et al., 2008), most of the education laws across the world lay stress on the harmonic and interrelated development of the physical, cognitive, affective and social fields at preschool.

Key Terms in this Chapter

Proprioception: A movement acknowledgment that informs of the muscle movement and the body position. It also allows for the discovery of shapes, textures, and volumes.

Sensation: Experience or impression lived as a conscious response given by the sensory system to stimuli.

Pictograms: Visual aid elements that represent an object, a place, a person, or an action.

Light Table: It is an education resource with its roots in the Montessori pedagogy. The basis is in the LED light screen that gives different dimensions to the materials and objects on them. It holds the attention of children while they handle the materials and do activities.

Mobility: Voluntary and coordinated actions that involve the motor, physical, cognitive and affective fields.

Self-Instructions: Technique to enhance self-control and planning in which children tell to themselves the steps they have to follow to perform an activity in order to internalize them.

Perception: Interpretation and association of the sensations through the relation and comparison of previous sensations, affective elements, and new sensations.
