Abstract

Information technology and allied computing components have drastically changed the entire education systems supported by various information technology sub-areas and components such as like technologies related to software, technologies related to database, technologies related to multimedia, technologies related to networking, etc. the advancement of IT in educational systems brings newer platforms such as online education, e-learning, digital education, etc. Different kind of educational models also reasons of developing various educational teaching and learning process mechanism. Digital education as a concept and technologically supported area is emerging quickly as it offer several benefits over traditional face to face education. This chapter illustrates various aspects of Digital Education such as features and advantages including stakeholders. Further, the work highlights the emerging technologies in education, i.e. role digital education. Moreover, the work also highlights about the existing future potentialities in digital education systems.

Introduction

The education and teaching-learning system now purely depends on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for various activities of education including educational management, educational operations and research, etc. Here several new and emerging technologies are radically changes in Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, IoT, Blockchain Systems, Cyber Physical Systems educational systems; and this lead the development of traditional/ on-campus education and also empowers newer educational models and pedagogical systems which including E-Learning, Online Learning, Blended Learning, etc (Adel, A., 2020 & Edwards, R., 2015). Cloud Computing is helps in remote availability of educational hardware, and software, and thus anytime and anywhere educational services is being offered by single platform. Cloud storage is helpful in sharing, protecting and managing proper process, procurement and thus it helps in developing not only E-Learning systems but also in Digital Education Systems. Data Analytics is important in collecting as well as selecting variety of data of various categories, and all these beneficial in Blended Education as it deals with variety of data format such which are structured and unstructured. Big Data is a tool and technique which is responsible in managing data mining of educational systems (Ekong, E. E., et.al. 2019) and some of the allied technologies such as Cloud Computing, Big Data and Data Analytics for effective and educational operation. Blockchain technologies is also valuable and my suitably useful in educational contents distribution as well as operations for proper digital platform management. Content management is required in degrees and qualification including certifications, and here Blockchain is interesting to use. Cyber Physical System is called as CPS, which is the need of the hour and there are various operations and involvement where educational content generation is important for the proper technologies leading to effective educational services which are more advanced, and timely (Adnan, M., and Anwar, K., 2017 & Bano, Y., & Vasantha, S., 2020). Such technology is important in effective growth and development in online education systems. Human Computer Interaction in short known as HCI which is in favor of designing and development of a mechanism and machine which is more connected with human being and here ‘human being’ and ‘technologies’ treated as important and valuable. HCI is helpful in better educational systems and communications in regard to developing Digital Education systems and among the stakeholder important are Learner, Teacher and Content. Indian Edtech companies including other developing countries even putting their effort in Digitalization of Educational Contents, Educational Operations and other activities. Digital Modes including pure online and blended (El Mhouti, A., Erradi, M., & Nasseh, A., 2018). And in such platforms and modes latest Information Technological applications are important and significant.

Digital Pedagogy is an emerging term in Information Technology and educational sciences dedicated in enhancing the educational ways of teaching-learning using information and communication technology. The concept of ICT in teaching-learning has been changed and it has created a new world to the stakeholders of students, computers as well as various other social media (Ekong, E., 2019). Digital pedagogy may be simply application either in online, physical or hybrid environment. Digital pedagogy focuses on meaningful way of teaching-learning activities and systems properly.

  • To find-out the benefits and advantages of Digital Education and allied systems and highlights major aspects here.

  • To know about the allied technologies and sub-technologies related to IT which are empowered in developing new educational models.

  • To know about the latest technologies such as Edge Computing, IoT, Blockchain and Fog Computing in brief and also implications and opportunities in Education; particularly in Digital Education Systems.

Fog Computing: Fog Computing is similar and close with the cloud based services. It is also close with edge based systems, it empowers multiple users, devices and electronic gadgets which helps in collecting students and faculty related data and applications.

E-Learning: E-Learning is simply Electronic Learning which is simply use of the ICT in teaching-learning, and not only depends only on online media, and in E-Learning internet is optional and teaching-learning process lies on various ICT devices, systems as well as tools. This kind of mode is suitable in traditional education enhancement as well.
