Introduction

Wireless sensor networks are exploited for different applications including transportation networks, habitat monitoring, smart homes, health care, and military surveillance. Such applications require special types of sensors known as smart sensors that can intelligently handle and analyze the received data before sending it to a central node.  Recently, with advances in micro electronics and mechanical systems (MEMS), many computational intelligence techniques are being applied to wireless sensor networks.  In fact, these techniques are applied at different levels of the wireless sensor networks including application, routing, MAC layers, and even in the task and mobility management layer. This book is intended to cover computational intelligence usage in the field of sensor networks.

Objective of the Book

This book is designed to provide major comprehensive study in the usage of computational intelligence in sensor networks. Computational Intelligence refers to advanced artificial intelligence techniques (including fuzzy systems, neural networks, evolutionary computation and swarm intelligence) that try to mimic nature in problem solving. The book materials are intended to provide the current state of the art of sensor networks in terms of technologies, applications, algorithms, and protocols as well as the involved techniques from the field of computational intelligence. These developments will be associated with extensive analysis and discussion. The book will also discuss real prototypes of wireless sensor networks and their impact on our daily life.   

Target Audience

The book would serve broad audience including researchers, academics, advanced students, and working professionals in the field of sensor networks, computational intelligence, health, environmental, governmental, defense and network companies.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before August 31, 2012, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by September 15, 2012 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by October 15, 2012. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
