Introduction

The rapid and profound permeation of generative AI technology into all aspects of modern society leads to a compelling call to harness the power of AI for transforming and revolutionizing education. One of the most significant areas of opportunity offered by generative-AI, is assessment. The rise of generative-AI calls for a fundamental re-evaluation of assessments. By harnessing the power of generative AI, educators can design assessments that have the potential to support inquiry-based learning and conceptual understanding and foster higher order thinking skills that are essential for the 21st century workforce.

Objective

This book Educational Assessments in the Age of Generative AI contributes to the effort to bring generative AI to the forefront of assessing students’ learning. The book explores how the use of generative AI tools and applications can transform and revolutionize assessment practices. The book is devoted to the following objectives: a) to share research and pedagogies with respect to assessments in the context of generative AI, b) to identify generative AI-enabled tools and applications for the effective assessment of learning, c) to share strategies and models of innovative assessments in the era of generative AI, and d) to identify promising areas and directions for future innovations in generative AI-based assessments.

Target Audience

This book is a valuable resource for faculty interested in generative AI, its assessment and research applications in the classroom and beyond, pre- and in-service teachers, higher education administrators and staff, policy makers, information technology support specialists, graduate students interested in using generative AI for learning, publishing companies, tests and assessments developers, educational services agencies and organizations, and the general public.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before May 12, 2024, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by May 26, 2024 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by August 4, 2024, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Educational Assessments in the Age of Generative AI. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
