Has Inaccurate Data Given the World a False Sense of Reality?

The Truth Behind Covid-19 Statistics Revealed

By IGI Global on Feb 6, 2023
Gloved hands holding a globe To date, the Covid-19 pandemic has surpassed over 6,700,000 total deaths worldwide. How can we know this is an accurate number when various reports, including one study led by Columbia University and in collaboration with additional renowned institutions, are revealing that differences in data reporting methods worldwide are skewing the statistics?
In the United States, people of color are dying at much higher rates than what Covid-19 data suggests. In China, a very narrow definition of Covid-19 related death has led to an underrepresentation of the death toll. Across Europe, changes in testing strategies have resulted in incorrect statistics. Inaccurate data collection and reporting negatively impacts how priorities for local public health departments and funding for community health initiatives are shaped.
