Hybrid Electric Power Train Engineering and Technology: Modeling, Control, and Simulation With the current dependence on traditional fossil fuels across the world causing drastic and lasting environmental damage, something needs to be done. Automobile manufacturers are becoming increasingly aware of this fact and incidentally, the electric vehicle market is expected to see a vast increase over the upcoming years. In Europe alone, sales are predicted to rise from 45,000 this year to approximately 400,000 in the year 2015 (Science World Report). If this trend stays on track and continues into the future, the engineering and design of these vehicles will need to be thoroughly investigated and continually improved to keep up with the ever changing safety and efficiency standards.

The recent IGI Global publication, Hybrid Electric Power Train Engineering and Technology: Modeling, Control, and Simulation, takes aim to provide a full understanding of hybridization and its important relationship to the mechanics of a vehicle’s power train, topics that will be of necessity in order to stay on par with the future demands of these vehicles. Author Antoni Szumanowski of the Warsaw University of Technology in Poland states:

“The initial image of the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and the Electric Vehicle (EV), corresponding simply to the fuel efficient and environmentally friendly car, is now evolving in response to wider customer expectations. New power train architectures, and the augmented functionalities are required to provide increased performance, improved drive ability and comfort, as well as even the ‘fun-to-drive’ so strongly demanded from the new generations of vehicles.”

Dr. Szumanowski's research provides readers with an investigation into HEV power train design using mathematical modeling and simulation of various hybrid electric motors and control systems. It explores the construction of the most energy efficient power trains, which is of importance to designers, manufacturers, and students of mechanical engineering.

Hybrid Electric Power Train Engineering and Technology: Modeling, Control, and Simulation is part of IGI Global’s Research Essentials Collection, which offers succinct discussions on niche topics in all areas of Information Science and Technology. These concise, advanced, and timely resources are perfect for supplementary course usage, targeted towards instructors and students, as well as the independent researcher looking for the most recent and innovative research in their field.
