Abstract

This chapter investigates identification of blood concentration in three compartment model of pharmacokinetic system. The dynamic behaviour of blood concentration in blood tissues are described using the compartmental models. The model is derived using first-principles method for the benchmark pharmacokinetic system. Using MATLab, the concentrations in all the three-compartments are estimated and validated with the experimental value. The quality of estimation has been verified based on the validation of experimental values with the estimated concentration values in all the three compartments. Quantitative comparison also done based on the computation and comparison of square relative error. Both the qualitative and quantitative measurements are done for benchmark pharmacokinetic system.

2. Pharmacokinetic Model: Three-Compartment Model

For examining the behaviour of intravenous delivery of drugs to the subject, the pharmacokinetic model is used. The same model are used to estimate the blood concentration in all the compartments. The benchmark three-compartment model is shown in Figure 1.
