Background

English language education in Vietnam is significantly affected by local political, economic, and social factors. For example, the innovation reform with an open-door policy known as Doi Moi in 1986 led to impressive Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth and increased foreign investment. In particular, it significantly influenced the development of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Vietnam. The evolving landscape also shaped English language teaching approaches, learning resources, and learner motivation (Nguyen, 2017).
