Abstract

The specialization of entrepreneurship in MBA has been a topic of debate – if it is important, or if entrepreneurs would build up a certain set of beneficial skills. Or is it a waste of money and time? The investigators investigated the perception of students and tried to bridge the gap between what they expect from management education and what avenues are available in market. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the attitude of management students towards their career as entrepreneur and entrepreneurship, and the contribution of university entrepreneurship development program. Through survey, it was found that most of the students want to open up their own ventures and want to become their own boss. It was revealed from the results that family support and family background are the most deciding factor in choosing entrepreneurship in their management degree. The results also reveal that personal qualities of a person also play a very important role in bearing risk and starting their own startup.

Introduction

The French verb entreprendre, which means “to begin something,” is where the word “entrepreneur” first appeared. When a person wants to develop a product, work on an idea, or realize their dream of starting their own business, it takes more than just careful planning and execution—they also need to acquire skills that will aid them in starting and growing their enterprise.

The debate surrounding the MBA's entrepreneurship specialization has centered on whether it is necessary for aspiring business owners to develop a certain set of skills or whether it is a waste of money and time that would be better spent starting or operating their company. On the other hand, some believe the degree can be extremely beneficial for developing a professional network and for starting new ventures. Earning a degree can also provide entrepreneurs with an uncommon opportunity to fail in a safe atmosphere, where failure could have disastrous. Students that choose this type of specialty have several opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial abilities.

The researchers looked at students' perceptions and attempted to close the gap between what they thought management education should be like and what options were out there. In India, research on the subject of entrepreneurship education awareness is still in its infancy. Thus, the primary goal of this research is to assess management students' perspectives on entrepreneurship and their future careers in it, as well as the value of university programs that promote entrepreneurship.
