Construction has significant impacts on the environment and natural resources. The environmental and energy challenges of the emerging world demand a substantial revolution in building design philosophies, strategies, technologies and construction methods.
The need for large numbers of new buildings to cope with increasing population and living standards is offset by the need to tackle global warming and the decline of biodiversity. To overcome this double challenge, it is necessary to move towards a more circular economy through the widespread use of a combination of alternative low-carbon construction materials and alternative technologies and practices.
All innovations in encouraging and safeguarding sustainable construction practices, from engineering materials and structures of various scales, including multi-faceted discussions about their strengths, limitations, opportunities, and challenges are welcomed. These are both current and future research interests in the sustainability of buildings and construction.
