Abstract

Virtual reality technology has been widely used due to its characteristics of immersion and interaction and has become a research hot spot both at home and abroad. In this research, the analysis technology of visual knowledge graph is adopted, and the core journals included in the CNKI database are taken as the literature source. The domestic research of virtual reality in the field of education. The researches show that the hot spots in this field include the construction of virtual experiment platform, the experiment application of medical simulation, the experiment application of simulation to improve safety, the teaching reform propelled by the application of virtual technology, the application of virtual simulation in innovation and entrepreneurship education, and the theoretical research of virtual learning community. Meanwhile, the research frontiers in this field are analyzed through the keyword burst graph, including the application of virtual reality in education, the informational construction of universities, and the integration of virtual reality and frontier technology.

2.1 Birth of Virtual Reality

The first idea of virtual reality was given by Sutherland (1965) known for the father of computer graphic and created the first Helmet-Mounted Displays (HMD) and head tracking system in 1968 and laid the foundation for the VR (Liu et al., 2017). The progression period started and in 1980’s first viewing system was developed by NASA in Virtual Planetary Laboratory. Foley (1987) discussed in detail the concept of virtual reality interface, hardware and application of VR. The term virtual reality was first suggested by Lanier (1989) and developed VR technology for the specific product and since 1990s, the progress and development in the simulation environment of virtual reality and the application is continuously growing across the world in the different norms. Year of 2016 is known for the year of artificial intelligence and virtual reality where big technological companies have shown much interest in the VR technology. since the industrialization and commercialization of VR technology in past two decades. Despite the emergence of virtual reality for over five decades yet much research studies are required to work in the field of VR in education and health etc. VR not only deals with computers or technology but also deals with human psychology (Coelho et al., 2006). VR is the mixture of multiple media devices in a 3D environment such as audio, image and video and much different than traditional multimedia (Riva, Waterworth, & Waterworth, 2004).
