Jonathan R. White

Jonathan White was awarded a PhD by the University of London in 1999 on Generative Syntax, looking at the position of result clauses and adjuncts in phrase structure. He has worked since then at the Department of English at Högskolan Dalarna in Sweden teaching courses in syntax, morphology, and pragmatics, among others. His research has moved onto computer-mediated communication, and in particular, language economy. He is investigating the pragmatic contexts that allow language to be reduced and how this has a community-building function. He is also working on the English of Vietnamese learners, focusing on transfer of syntactic and morphological features from Vietnamese.
