The Latest Research on Technology Implementation in Educational Settings

Is Technology an Asset or a Distraction in the Classroom?

By Brittany Haynes on Jul 24, 2019

According to an Inside Higher Ed article, a recent survey found that nearly half of students are distracted by technology in the classroom as laptops and phones are being integrated into curriculum.

Although more and more classrooms are utilizing technology and integrating social media-focused tasks in the classroom, as it helps increase student engagement and prepare students for a technologically focused workforce, many researchers are stating that it can impair students’ ability to retain information, as well as lead to lower test scores. Additionally, teachers are becoming concerned as many students are using this technology for unrelated-to-class tasks including texting and posting on social media.

As a leader within educational research, and with the use of social media, online applications, and virtual games in classrooms continuing to expand, IGI Global provides the latest resources exploring the most current trends in the use of technology in the field of education.
