Recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history

Spotlight Titles for Black History Month

By IGI Global on Feb 2, 2015
Spotlight Titles for Black History Month Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

In observance of this event, IGI Global would like to bring attention to a few premier research chapters that support issues associated with this valuable cause.

"Empowering African American Adolescent Males through Engaging Literacy Tasks" featured in the Handbook of Research on Education and Technology in a Changing Society

"Social Justice, America, & African American Children: 21st Century Challenges of Disparities in Health Care and Education", featured in Regional Development: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications

"The Evolving Discourse of the Digital Divide: The Internet, Black Identity, and the Evolving Discourse of the Digital Divide" from Digital Literacy: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications

"Theorizing African American Women’s Learning and Development: Leveraging Workforce Diversity through Socio-Cultural Adult Learning Theories" from the Handbook of Research on Workforce Diversity in a Global Society: Technologies and Concepts
