Dr. Christopher G. Reddick is a Professor of Public Administration and Department Chair at the University of Texas at San Antonio, USA. Dr. Reddick has contributed years of research and has written and edited many publications and proceedings in the developing area of public administration and information technology. Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Public Administration in the Digital Age (IJPADA), Dr. Reddick was recently selected for IGI Global’s 2014 InfoSci®-Journals Distinguished Fellowship Award.

In order to qualify for this honor, an Editor-in-Chief must exhibit a record of success in raising citation, visibility, and scholarship of their journal. They must also secure an adequate quantity of submissions from leading authors and publish each journal issue on a timely basis. Dr. Reddick recently took some time to speak with IGI Global Promotions Coordinator, Ann Lupold, about his journal, continuing research, and career.

Interview with Dr. Chris Reddick, Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Public Administration in the Digital AgeTell us a little about your area of expertise. How long have you been involved in the study of public administration and information technology?

I’ve published in the field of public administration and information technology for over 10 years. I teach in a Master’s of Public Administration (MPA) program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where one of the courses that I teach deals with the application of information technology to public sector organizations. I am especially passionate about research and editing IJPADA as it enables me to work with like-minded scholars throughout the world.

I read that you have published over 50 journal articles and chapters. Tell us about your experience in publishing. How has it assisted in furthering your career and professional development?

I have published many journal articles and edited numerous books on the field of public administration and information technology. I especially enjoy editing books, as it gives me the opportunity to work with authors throughout the world. I have been fortunate to be able to interact with some amazing scholars throughout the world, working with them on major research projects. I am most proud of my research on e-government in developing countries, especially working in Egypt. Developing countries can especially benefit from the advancement of technology.

Tell us a little about the International Journal of Public Administration in the Digital Age. Why is research on the impact of IT in public and nonprofit organizations so important in today’s society?

IJPADA is the first journal of its kind to exclusively focus on the intersection between technology, government, and nonprofit organizations. As we know, governments throughout the world have been tasked with focusing on results, to become more open and transparent to their citizens. Technology enables these governments to do more with less, enhancing accountability to their citizens, and creating better results. Research that examines these areas will have a lasting impact on the field.

What findings have you found most fascinating in your research experience?

My most interesting research findings are explanations of new and emerging technologies and their application to government. Technology is rapidly changing, and IJPADA has an important role to play in educating scholars and practitioners about new and emerging trends in government and nonprofit organizations.

Where do you see the future of public administration in regards to the rapid pace of technology?

The future looks very bright for public administration and information technology. Governments should make wise choices, by using technology to enhance democracy, accountability, and ultimately their performance. The technology is there, but governments need to make wise investment choices.

Thank you very much, Dr. Reddick, for taking the time to speak with us.
