IGI Global Editors Host Workshop on Visual Literacy

By IGI Global on Sep 8, 2014
Cases on Teaching Critical Thinking through Visual Representation Strategies University of Southern Maine Professors Jeff Beaudry and Lenny Shedletsky are pleased to announce their edited book, Cases on Teaching Critical Thinking through Visual Representation Strategies. The book brings together research and case studies from teachers and administrators to provide new insights into the use of visual literacy, concept mapping and visual representation for student development in critical thinking and writing. This publication reveals significant evidence that concept mapping has large effects on:
  • Consolidation of knowledge and long-term memory, especially in the sciences
  • Writing of all kinds as a pre-writing strategy, and to add graphics
  • Systems thinking and planning
On October 15, 2014, Professors Beaudry and Shedletsky will offer an online workshop/seminar on visual literacy for faculty throughout the University of Maine System. In addition, several authors of Cases on Teaching Critical Thinking through Visual Representation Strategies will participate in the program. The series will introduce faculty to visual literacy and concept mapping, encouraging collaborative work all winter as faculty develop classroom applications. Participants will then reconvene online April 6th to share insights.

Join the webinar on October 15th, from 9:00 a.m.-noon (EST):
