Q&A: IGI Global Editor Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award

B.B. Gupta IGI Global is proud to announce that Dr. B. B. Gupta was recently awarded the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award for being a thought-leader in the information technology (IT) industry. As an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, India, the Co-Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of International Journal of Cloud Applications and Computing (IJCAC), and editor of Handbook of Research on Modern Cryptographic Solutions for Computer and Cyber Security, Gupta has dedicated his life to furthering the IT industry through decades of research.

Dr. Gupta recently took the time to speak with IGI Global on his great accomplishment and his plans for the future.

What does this accomplishment mean to you?

This moment of being recognized as a global achiever is a greatest achievement of my career. I feel that this award recognizes my contribution to the field of research and education. It was a bit of shocked to receive the award email as it came with complete surprise. I am deeply honored to receive this lifetime achievement award and thankful for all the people around me who have nominated me because of my abilities and contribution to the society and feel proud of my achievements and are humble enough to support and appreciate my work.

What inspired you to pursue a career in IT and research?

I was a curious student from my childhood and IT was my passion as soon as I finished my high school. I am always fascinated by the information technology and how it is helping and simplifying our day to day life. Research has always fascinated me because of its potential to invent something new and groundbreaking. Going back in time, I remember that research was the only thing which kept me motivated to achieve more and more. I always wanted to advance information technology and cyber world. As I got my PhD, I realized that research is the field where I could learn more by working with smart and highly intellectual people and research just made sense to me.

Do you have any upcoming projects or significant news about your research?

Yes, I’m working on various research projects to advance the upcoming technology. Currently, I am working on R&D projects in the area of Information security, Cyber Security, Mobile security, Cloud security, Smart Card Security, Web security, Intrusion detection, Computer networks and Phishing. These projects will not only impact the way we live but will change the way we work.

How have your experiences and accomplishments throughout your lifetime equipped you to be a successful Co-Editor-In-Chief?

To become a successful Editor-In-Chief of any publication, your experiences and accomplishments go a long way. I feel that the responsibility of an Editor-In-Chief is not only overseeing editors, but also to actively participate in activities like building advisory committee, editorial boards, publicity of the journal, call for papers, deciding what is emerging research article to be published, maintaining high quality and standard of the journal. I have always been dedicated my energy on working multiple government-sponsored projects that have greatly enhanced my writing skills, business acumen, editorial experience, leadership, networking and communication skills.

Is there anything else you would like share regarding your research and this award?

I am grateful and honored to win this prestigious lifetime award. However, I am more grateful to almighty for blessing me with the opportunity of being an academician. That feeling of walking into a class and helping students critically think about the technology surrounding them is the best feeling. Students face these similar challenges that I faced as a student which motivates me to work hard every day to make a difference in their lives, knowing that I have helped a student in the struggles of his educational journey is rewarding enough for me.

About Dr. B.B. Gupta



B. B. Gupta received his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India in the area of information security. In 2009, he was selected for Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship award by Government of Canada. Dr. Gupta also received Sir Visvesvaraya Young Faculty Research Fellowship Award in 2017 from Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. He has published more than 125 research papers in International Journals and Conferences of high repute including IEEE, Elsevier, ACM, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Inderscience, etc. He has visited several countries, i.e. Canada, Japan, Australia, China, Hong-Kong, Malaysia, etc to present his research work. He is also working as a principal investigator of various R&D projects sponsored by various government of India funding agencies. He is serving as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Access, Executive editor of IJITCA, Inderscience, respectively. Moreover, Dr. Gupta is also leading International Journal of Cloud Applications and Computing (IJCAC), IGI Global, USA as Editor-in-Chief. He has also served as guest editor of various high-quality journals.

Moreover, he has won numerous other awards and recognitions including Travel Grant by Microsoft Research (MSR), International Travel Support (ITS) award (Young Scientists), by SERB, DST, Govt. of India and ACM Special Interest Group on Data Communication Grant and has been awarded outstanding paper awards in both regular and student categories in 5th IEEE Global Conference on Consumer Electronics (GCCE), Kyoto, Japan and Best Poster presentation award and People choice award for Poster presentation in CSPC-2014, Malaysia. He served as Jury in All IEEE-R10 Young Engineers' Humanitarian Challenge (AIYEHUM-2014), 2014. He has also served as founder and organizing chair of International Workshop on Future Information Security, Privacy and Forensics for Complex Systems (FISP-2015) in conjunction with ACM International Conference on Computing Frontiers (CF-2015), Ischia, Italy in May 2015. He has also served as publicity chair in 10th International Conference on Network and System Security Taipei, Taiwan, and publicity co-chair in IFSA-SCIS 2017, Otsu, Japan, respectively. Dr. Gupta is also serving as visiting researcher in various leading universities across the globe. At present, he is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, India. His research interest includes information security, cyber security, cloud computing, web security, intrusion detection, computer networks and phishing.
