The 35th Annual Conference confronts issues in Book and Serial Acquisition

IGI Global Announces Diamond Sponsorship for the 2015 Annual Charleston Conference

By IGI Global on Sep 28, 2015
IGI Global's Academic Librarian Sponsorship Program Each year hundreds of librarians, vendors, and publishers make a pilgrimage to the Holy City. They are not headed to the Mediterranean, but to the southeast coast of the U S — to Charleston, South Carolina.

The Charleston Conference is an informal annual gathering of librarians, publishers, electronic resource managers, consultants, and vendors of library materials in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, in November, to discuss issues of importance to them all. It is designed to be a collegial gathering of individuals from different areas who discuss the same issues in a non-threatening, friendly, and highly informal environment. Presidents of companies discuss and debate with library directors, acquisitions librarians, reference librarians, serials librarians, collection development librarians, and many, many others. Begun in 1980, the Charleston Conference has grown from 20 participants in 1980 to over 1,600 in 2014.

As a leading publisher of scholarly publications and databases, IGI Global seeks to support the advancement of resources and services in academic libraries. In this position, IGI Global has taken the role of Diamond Sponsor of the conference. As part of this initiative, we are proud to continue our Academic Librarian Sponsorship Program, which sponsors librarians’ attendance of the industry’s most important events.

In an ongoing effort to help librarians grow professionally and increase their understanding of the changing state of knowledge resources, IGI Global will award one librarian a $500 stipend for attendance of the 2015 Charleston Conference, held this year from November 4th-7th in Charleston, South Carolina. IGI Global is proud to be a tenth-year Diamond Sponsor for this conference.

To apply for the Academic Librarian Sponsorship Program, librarians are asked to submit a 250-word essay on why they should be awarded the stipend, describing the following:

  • How can publishers and librarians better interact to further the advancement of knowledge resources?
  • How can publishers assist in making resources more useable for librarians and their patrons?
  • How can librarians make cutting-edge resources more discoverable for students and faculty?

Submission deadline for the Academic Librarian Sponsorship Award for the Charleston Conference is Friday, October 16th. For more information on the 2015 Charleston Conference, visit their home page: www.charlestonlibraryconference.com.
