Conference to Focus on Using and Leveraging ICTs to Boost Economic Activity

Dr. Badrul Huda Khan to speak at Digital World 2012 ConferenceDr. Badrul Huda Khan is a world-renowned educator, author, speaker, and consultant in the field of e-learning, as well as the editor of several IGI Global publications. Professor Khan was recently asked to present at the Digital World 2012 Conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His keynote presentation is entitled “Meaningful e-Learning in Developing Countries.” Prior to the conference, Dr. Khan will also have an opportunity to discuss e-learning for developing nations with 2006 Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Dr. Badrul Huda Khan has been credited with coining the phrase “Web-based instruction” and popularizing the concept through his 1997 best-selling publication Web-Based Instruction which paved the way for the field of e-learning. He authored and coauthored 11 books and over 100 papers in the field of e-learning and distance learning. He contributed to the development of US virtual education policies organized by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Naval Postgraduate School, and the National Educational Technology Plan by the US Department of Education. He is a past president of the International Division of the Association for Educational and Communication Technology (AECT). He delivered keynote speeches in more than 50 international e-learning and distance learning conferences. Dr. Khan has served as a consultant to distance education, learning development and human resource development projects at the World Bank, the US Federal Government, the Asian Development Bank, and various academic institutions and corporations in the U.S. and throughout the world.

He previously served as Professor and founding Director of the Educational Technology Leadership (ETL), a graduate cohort program at George Washington University, and also holds the role of founding Director of the Educational Technology graduate program at the University of Texas, Brownsville. In recognition of his unique contribution to the field of e-learning coupled with his services to worldwide e-learning communities, in August 2012 the Egyptian E-Learning University Council appointed Dr. Badrul Khan as an honorary distinguished professor of e-learning.

Digital World 2012 , held from December 6-8, will focus on using and leveraging ICTs and modern technology with the intention of boosting economic activity. The summit will define a road map for e-transformation in Bangladesh through the effective integration of technology in public and private sector life and it will lay out a proactive agenda to strengthen and showcase national ICT sector competitiveness. With this conference, Bangladesh will project its ICT innovation and potential to the world, and also become more informed of other nation’s ICT ideas and concepts. Ultimately the event will build and enforce networking and business connections.
