Reviews & Statements

"The objective of this book is also to provide more evidences about the Semantic Web takeoff in E-Business, but from an innovative point of view compared to existing related books. The approach is to present a compendium of business cases that show the application of Semantic Web technologies in E-Business problems."

– Roberto Garcia, Universitat de Lleida, Spain

This title provides real-life cases illustrating the benefits of Semantic Web technologies as applied to e-business and e-commerce scenarios.

– Book News Inc. (February 2009)

This is a worthwhile collection of case studies that will make a useful addition to the library shelves of those universities in which the Semantic Web is taught or researched.

– Paul Miller, The Cloud of Data

What makes this volume unique is that it not only focuses on methodological and technological challenges, but also on the business needs. ... This volume should prove valuable for anyone interested in the application of SW [Semantic Web] methodologies and technologies in real-life scenarios. IT practitioners, researchers, students and business managers should profit from reviewing the business case reports.

Editor/Author Biographies
Roberto García got his MSc. in Computer Science from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). His MSc. thesis, completed the year 2000, developed a distributed knowledge management system using Semantic Web technologies. Then, he completed a Master in E-Commerce and collaborated in the first steps of a web and interactive systems company before returning to the academic world. In 2001 he got a research assistant position at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and carried out his research in Semantic Web based multimedia and digital rights management. These research activities concluded with his PhD thesis in 2006 about a Semantic Web approach to DRM. He is now an assistant professor at the Universitat de Lleida (UdL). He is also member of the GRIHO Human-Computer Interaction and Data Integration research group, where he is combining his previous research lines with trying to get the Semantic Web in touch with “real-world” end-users.
