Description & Coverage
Description:

Just as chemistry is a part of our daily lives, functional coatings can be found in almost every object, gadget or device you can see or touch. However, in the last 20 years the advances made in the preparation of different functional coatings with diverse compositions have allowed the development of nanoscale coatings that are more cost-effective and environmentally conscious than traditional coatings.

Research Perspectives on Functional Micro- and Nanoscale Coatings highlights critical research on preparation methods, modification, organization, and utilization of functional coatings in micro, nano, and biotechnology. Emphasizing emerging developments and global research perspectives, this publication is a pivotal resource for engineers, researchers, and graduate-level students interested in learning about emerging developments in functional coatings and nanotechnology.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Biocompatable Coatings
  • Biomedical Applications
  • Multilayer Coatings
  • Nanoparticles
  • Optical Functionalities
  • Smart Coatings
  • Superhydrophobic Coatings
  • Thermal Barrier Coatings
Reviews & Statements

This title presents readers with collection of research and expert perspectives on the emerging and contemporary applications for functional micro- and nanoscale coatings in a variety of contexts. The fifteen contributions that make up the main bulk of the text are devoted to the rapidly and continuously developing field of functional coatings; the synthesis, properties, and applications of functional polymeric coatings, functional coatings for bone tissue engineering, and a wide variety of other related topics.

Editor/Author Biographies
Ana Zuzuarregui at present is a post-doctoral researcher of the Nanomaterials group at CIC Nanogune. She received her PhD in Applied Engineering from the University of Navarra in 2013, developed in the BioMEMS Research Line of the Microelectronics and Microsystems Area of CEIT working on the design and fabrication of biosensors for pathogen detection by means of electrochemical techniques. She received her Chemical Engineering degree from the Engineering School of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain) in 2009. She is the referee of several international journals. At present, her research interest field is focused on the fabrication of thin-film coatings based on inorganic-organic materials and polymer modification for several applications.
Dr. Maria Carmen Morant-Miñana is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Nanoengineering group at CIC nanoGUNE. She received her PhD degree in Pharmacy from the University of València in 2007 and for her postdoctoral fellowship she worked in the field of Material Science at the University of Konstanz. Before she assumed her current position in October 2015, she worked in the development of electrochemical sensors for bio and chemical applications based on thin gold films and new advanced materials. She has authored several articles in recent years, mainly in chemistry and material science journals.
