Critical information infrastructure protection (CIIP) against cyber attacks and other hazards has quickly grown in importance as society relies more and more heavily on technological advances in telecommunications, the Internet, and social networks. This reference contains a broad scope of empirical research on the strength and resilience of information communications technology (ICT) and CIIP from the perspective of the absence of data regarding possible threats and dangers. Editors Theron (Resilience Studies Team, France), Bologna (AIIC, Italy) and 27 contributors explore topics such as resilience principles for the ICT sector, lessons from major incidents influencing and influenced by telecom failures, using hybrid attack graphs to model and analyze attacks against the critical information infrastructure, and cyber risks in energy grid ICT infrastructures. The book would be useful for academia, governments, and other organizations involved or interested in CIIP and resilience and emergency preparedness.

Editor/Author Biographies
Paul Théron, MSc, has been a member of the ENISA’s Permanent Stakeholders Group, and is a memeber of DG JRC’s ERNCIP Group on ICS and SmartGrid Cyber Security and of the Business Continuity Institute. He co-founded the French National Council for Business Continuity in 2009 and runs the Resilience Studies Team. He studies ICT resilience. His contributions include reports for ARCEP (2011), ENISA (2011), and European Commission (2010). His research focuses on the dynamic transformation of the {incident; organisation’s integrity; organisation’s response} state space under critical circumstances. He is a regular invited Lecturer on Critical Infrastructure Resilience at Poitiers Faculty of Science, Aix-Marseille University; Mines ParisTech, French Ecole de Guerre, and Institut National des Hautes Etudes de la Sécurité et de la Justice in Paris. He participates in ISO TC223 and NATO’s NIAG standardisation work streams on cyber resilience, business continuity, and command & control.
Sandro Bologna received the degree in Physics from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He has more than 40 years experience with the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) and abroad, where he has covered different positions as Researcher, Head of Research Units, Head of Research Projects at national and international levels. His main research activities deal with the achievement and assessment of computer based system safety and reliability, large networks vulnerability analysis, critical infrastructure protection and resilience. In this field he has co-authored several scientific publications and books and served in the editorial board of different international journals, among others the International Journal of Critical Infrastructures. In the year 2011 he has been serving as General Co-Chair of the 6th International Conference on Critical Information Infrastructures Security (CRITIS 2011) and of the 30th International Conference on Computer Safety, Reliability, and Security (SAFECOMP 2011). At present (2012) he is the President of the Italian Association of Critical Infrastructures Experts, and Experts Group Member of the European Reference Network for Critical Infrastructure Protection.
