Description & Coverage
Description:

With more restrictions upon animal experimentations, pharmaceutical industries are currently focusing on a new generation of experiments and technologies that are considerably more efficient and less controversial. The integration of computational and experimental strategies has led to the identification and development of promising compounds.

Computer Applications in Drug Discovery and Development is a pivotal reference source that provides innovative research on the application of computers for discovering and designing new drugs in modern molecular biology and medicinal chemistry. While highlighting topics such as chemical structure databases and dataset utilization, this publication delves into the current panorama of drug discovery, where high drug failure rates are a major concern and properly designed virtual screening strategies can be a time-saving, cost-effective, and productive alternative. This book is ideally designed for chemical engineers, pharmacists, molecular biologists, students, researchers, and academicians seeking current research on the unexplored avenues and future perspectives of drug design.

Coverage:

The many academic areas covered in this publication include, but are not limited to:

  • Chemical Structure Databases
  • Dataset Utilization
  • Drug Design
  • Molecular Modeling
  • Preclinical Drug Characterization
  • Predictive Virtual Screenings
  • Properties of Piperine
  • Prospects of Drug Technology
  • QSAR Applications
  • Sequencing Techniques
  • Therapeutic Activity

Editor/Author Biographies

Ayarivan Puratchikody has completed her M.Pharm., degree from the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR. Medical University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India in the year 1996. She has completed her Ph.D., in the area of Chemistry-Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Bharthidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India in the year 2006. Currently, she is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Bharathidasan Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapplli Campus, Anna University, Chennai-600025, Tamil Nadu, India. She has a total experience of 22 years in teaching and research. She has qualified GATE, and was the best outgoing student in M.Pharmacy for which she was awarded Thiru. Gnana Sebastian-Theresa Educational Endowment award. She is very committed to her research career and had been offered the Tamil Nadu Young Women Scientist Award 2008, Prof. S.P.Thyagarajan - Prof.S.Rajarajan endowment award 2011, Innovation award 2015 by Anna University Chennai for her research credits. She has guided more than 52 two UG projects and 63 PG projects so far and few received financial assistance from Tamilnadu Government Science and Technology- Chennai, DBT New Delhi and TEQIP New Delhi. In her credits so far, nine scholars were awarded Ph.D and other two pursuing their research in interdisciplinary approach. She has presented several research findings in the national and international conferences. Being a continuous researcher, she was sanctioned a research project entitled “Isolation and characterization of bioactive molecules from marine organisms” by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi during the year 2006-09. Again, for the year, 2013-16, she had received a DST project entitled “Design, synthesis and evaluation of novel COX-2 inhibitors of dibromotyrosine derivatives as anti-inflammatory drugs”. She is also a co-investigator for a UGC sponsored project. She has been advisor of student forum called MANANM since 2011. Manam forum is a group of students organized for the purpose furthering their common interests in an activity through participation and competition. Manam forum is meant to be a learning experience for the members through their involvement in public reactions, organization, administration and scheduling, as well as, through the development of skills in their particular area of interest. Involvement in a group and team environment helps enhance a student’s overall education while living in the collegiate setting. She has organized short term programme, conferences and workshops with the support of various research funding agencies in India. She has authored two books in her area of research, discovery and development of novel lead molecules. Apart from her role of academician, she has many feathers in her hat. She has held various administrative positions of Anna University, Tiruchirappalli.
